Tim became interested in photography in 1980. His original intent was to photograph wildlife and scenics while enjoying his other loves - kayaking and hiking. Soon his interests gradually gravitated primarily towards bird photography. Tim knew that a great knowledge of his subject would enhance his photographs so he began to study birds and their habits. Now Tim travels around North America and has met many of the top birders. Tim's images were first published when he wrote to Chanticleer Press regarding their Audubon Field Guides. "They told me they were actually just in the process of putting out new updated guides and that I was welcome to submit for their photo selection review." They selected many of Tim's images for the guides. Chanticleer then contacted Time for all nature/wildlife publications they were working on, and he became a regular photo contributor for them. After being in many Chanticleer publications, his name as a bird photographer became known throughout the birding community. It was then that Tim was approached by many other publishers for photo submissions. Since then his images have been published in many books, magazines, calendars, field guides, etc throughout North America. "I also was lucky enough to be accepted by Corbis Productions to submit my images for their image bank." Corbis has about 2000 of his images on file and he receives quarterly royalty checks from Corbis for sales of those images. For a variety of reasons, he stopped photography in the mid 90's and did not take it back up until 2004. |

Tim left his government job with the Ministry of Transportation in November 2004, and with his severance money purchased his first digital SLR setup in June 2005. Since then Tim has been very active again with photography. While still focusing primarily on birds, Tim also loves to take pictures of mushrooms, flowers, insects, nature/scenery, etc. Gear - His current gear is Nikon D70s, Nikkor 18-70, Nikkor 105 f2.8 micro, Nikkor 300 f4 AFS, Nikkor TC-14E II, Nikkor TC-20E II, one SB-800 & two SB-600 Speedlights, Manfrotto ART 055 tripod and a homemade blind/hide. "I really wanted to get the D2X and Nikkor 600 f4, but my current financial situation does not allow it." Goals - His current goal is to build up his image bank with all new images from his new DSLR, and then aggressively start marketing them again. Other Interests - He is also a professional musician and runs a small home recording studio, where he records his own band's CDs, as well as CDs for other local artists. He now makes his humble living from his photo sales and recording studio. "I don't make nearly as much money as I did with the government, but I am much happier doing what I truly love to do." |
